Tire Sales, Repair and Changeovers in North Bay

AutoNorth Auto Repair is a full-service tire shop at 1520 Cholette St in North Bay, selling, installing, repairing, balancing and storing tires under one roof. The shop sells tires, stocks 21 brands, and orders in whatever a customer asks for across all the major brands, mounts and balances every wheel in house, and handles the spring and fall changeovers for the roughly 200 sets of customer tires it already keeps racked. Whether you need one puncture looked at or four new tires on a second set of rims, it happens at one shop on one appointment.

What It Costs

How Much Do Tires Cost in North Bay?

Tire prices at AutoNorth come down to four things: the size, the brand tier you pick, whether the tires go onto rims you already own, and what your vehicle needs for sensors. AutoNorth quotes the installed price before anything is ordered, so the number you agree to is the number on the invoice.

  • Tire size. A 15-inch commuter tire and a 20-inch truck tire are different products at different prices, and the bigger sizes take longer on the machine.
  • Brand tier. AutoNorth stocks premium names like Michelin, Bridgestone and Continental alongside value brands like Antares, Radar and Predator. The shop will tell you honestly where the extra money does and does not buy you something.
  • Rims or no rims. A second set of steel or alloy rims costs money once, then takes labour out of every changeover after that.
  • Sensors. Vehicles with tire pressure monitoring may need sensors moved over, rebuilt, or replaced. That gets confirmed on your quote, not discovered afterward.
  • Storage. AutoNorth stores off-season sets at the shop. Ask what seasonal storage costs, and whether it is included when you buy a set of four, at the same time you get your tire quote.

Several of the brands AutoNorth carries run their own manufacturer warranties and mail-in rebates through the year. Ask the shop about current rebates when you get your quote, because they change and they are easy to miss.

How Does AutoNorth Mount and Balance Tires?

AutoNorth mounts and balances tires at its own shop on its own equipment, so your wheels are not driven across town to a third party and back.

  • The tire comes off the rim properly. Rushing a bead is how rims get gouged and how tires get damaged before they are ever driven on.
  • Every wheel gets balanced. An unbalanced wheel shows up as a shake at highway speed and chews the tread unevenly long before you notice it.
  • Sensors get checked. If the vehicle runs tire pressure monitoring, the sensors are dealt with during the job rather than left to set a light off on the way home.
  • Torqued to spec. Wheels go back on to the manufacturer's torque, not to whatever an impact gun happens to deliver.

The Real Decision

Second Set of Rims or Changeover on the Same Rims?

Buying winter tires already mounted on their own rims costs more the first year and less every year after, because the seasonal swap becomes a wheel change instead of a full tire change.

Own rims vs. same rimsWinter tires on their own rimsChangeover on the same rims
First-year costHigher: you are buying four rims as well as four tiresLower: tires only
Cost every season afterLower: a wheel swap is quicker than dismounting and remountingHigher: the tires come off and go back on the rims twice a year
Wear on the tireLess: the bead is only seated onceMore: every mount and dismount works the bead again

There is no universally right answer here, which is why AutoNorth prices it both ways when you ask. Tell the shop how long you plan to keep the vehicle and the maths usually decides itself.

Book Early

When Should You Book a Tire Changeover in North Bay?

Book your winter changeover before the first snowfall, not after it. North Bay's tire season arrives fast, every shop in town fills up in the same fortnight, and the customers who call early are the ones who get a time that suits them.

  • October is the window. Once the forecast turns, the phone does not stop, and appointments go out further than anyone wants.
  • Storage customers get booked ahead. AutoNorth already racks close to 200 sets of customer tires, and those changeovers get scheduled before the rush lands.
  • Not sure which winter tire? The winter tires page covers what actually separates a winter tire from an all-season, and when the swap should happen.
  • Spring matters too. Leaving winter tires on through the warm months wears out an expensive set of tires early for no benefit.
  • Buying and swapping in one visit. If you are buying the winter set from AutoNorth anyway, the install and the storage conversation happen on the same appointment.

Straight Answer

Can a Tire Be Repaired or Does It Need Replacing?

It depends on where the damage is and how long the tire was driven on flat, and the only way to know is to take the tire off the rim and look inside it. AutoNorth does that first and then tells you which one you are dealing with.

  • Punctures in the tread area are often repairable. A nail through the middle of the tread is the best case, and it is a common one.
  • Sidewall and shoulder damage is not. That part of the tire flexes constantly, and a repair there is not something any responsible shop will send back out on the road.
  • Driving on it flat changes the answer. A tire run without air can be wrecked internally even when the outside looks fine, which is exactly what the inside inspection is for.
  • You see it before you decide. AutoNorth's digital inspection sends photos and video to your phone, so a "this one is done" comes with a picture of why.
Rims & Wheels

Rim and Wheel Sales in North Bay

AutoNorth sells rims and wheels as well as tires, and orders in whatever you ask for. Steel winter rims, factory alloys or something different, the shop can get it and fit it.

Steel rims are the practical end of it: cheap, tough, and completely unbothered by a winter of road salt, which is why so many winter sets go onto them. Alloys are what most vehicles come wearing from the factory.

If you are after a different set of wheels, tell AutoNorth what you have in mind and the shop will order them in and price them for your vehicle before you commit to anything. Whatever the wheels are, bought here or brought in, they get fitted, balanced and torqued in the same shop on the same visit.

Straight Answers

Tire Shop: Common Questions

Does AutoNorth sell rims and wheels, or only fit them?

AutoNorth sells rims and wheels as well as tires, and orders in whatever a customer asks for. Steel winter rims, factory-style alloys or something different, the shop can get it, price it for your vehicle, and fit, balance and torque it on the same visit. You can also bring your own wheels in and have tires fitted to them.

How many tire brands does AutoNorth carry in North Bay?

AutoNorth Auto Repair stocks 21 tire brands, including Michelin, BFGoodrich, Bridgestone, Continental, Pirelli, Toyo, Yokohama and Hankook, and can order most other brands through its suppliers. Call (705) 472-6060 with your vehicle and tire size and the shop will confirm what is available.

Does AutoNorth balance tires in house?

Yes. AutoNorth mounts and balances tires at its own shop at 1520 Cholette St. Your wheels are not sent to another shop and back, which is one less handoff where something can go wrong.

Can AutoNorth mount winter tires on a second set of rims?

Yes. AutoNorth fits winter tires onto a dedicated second set of rims, which turns the seasonal changeover into a wheel swap instead of a full tire change. Ask for the quote both ways and compare, because which one wins depends on how long you are keeping the vehicle.

Does AutoNorth supply tires for work trucks and fleets?

Yes. Tire supply, installation and seasonal changeovers are part of what AutoNorth does for commercial vehicles and fleet accounts, alongside inspections and mechanical repair. See the AutoNorth fleet services page or call the shop to set it up.

Are there rebates on the tire brands AutoNorth carries?

Several of the brands AutoNorth carries run manufacturer warranties and mail-in rebates through the year. They change from season to season, so ask AutoNorth what is running when you get your quote rather than assuming one way or the other.
